Foldable phones seem to be here to stay, but as we noted in our review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and others, they still cost way too much for most users. But the high price tags may soon come to an end.
Tipster @Jukanlosreve (via JS) reports that Samsung could launch a cheaper foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip FE, as soon as next year. The FE, or Fan Edition, is Samsung’s slightly downgraded, but also cheaper, version of the company’s big launches every year.
According to the rumor, the Galaxy Z Flip FE will be equipped with the same Exynos 2400 system chipset that powers both the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus.
The news comes after Samsung EVP Jaejune Kim hinted at cheaper foldable devices during a call and said it is considering “lowering purchasing barriers” to make them more accessible.
Other recent FE devices include the Galaxy Watch FE and Galaxy S24 FE, but Samsung will have to be careful with pricing and the flagship models are often reduced to cheaper prices, making them less attractive.
