Sarah Michelle Gellar recently went to her Instagram story to speak for the first time on the reboot “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” who currently has a pilot order at Hulu. “Buffy” fans are divided on social media about whether a reboot is needed or not. The news of the reboot “Buffy” broke on February 3.
“So … you may have heard something new this week, but I realize that you didn’t hear from me,” Gellar wrote to the Fandom. “Three years ago I received a phone call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her accept a potential ‘Buffy’ revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but as I always did, I told Gail that I just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again. We were always tailored to that, but this time I heard something else in her voice. ”
Gellar agreed to a meeting, especially so that she could just get the chance to talk to “Nomadland” Oscar winner Zhao. But their “Twenty Minute Coffee soon turned into an adventure of four hours,” the actor wrote.
“Although I did not agree with something during that meeting, I shocked myself by agreeing to continue the conversation,” Gellar continued. “In fact, these conversations have continued in the coming years and in the end we added the incredible Nora and Lilla Zuckerman to our small tribe until we finally landed an idea one day. I have always listened to the fans and have heard your wish to visit ‘Buffy’ and her world again, but it was not something that I could do, unless I was sure we would have it right. “
She concluded: “This has been a long process and it is not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do well. And I will tell you that we are on the path there. I feel so happy that I am on this trip with these four incredibly talented women, all of whom love ‘Buffy’ as I do. And as much as you. Thank you to all the fans who have never stopped. This will be for you. “
Gellar will repeat her iconic role of Buffy Summers in the reboot, although the series is expected to concentrate on a new character and Gellar will have in a mentor support role. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, Showrun and Executive produce the series, while ZHAO is confirmed to direct and executive products.
“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” originated as a film with Kristy Swanson in the title role, but Gellar took over the title character five years later when “Buffy” was launched as a television series on the WB. The supernatural series ran for seven seasons and 144 episodes between 1997 and 2003. The last two seasons were broadcast on UPN.
