If you regularly scroll endlessly through Instagram, you’ve almost certainly come across a really catchy song that you want on your own playlist. Previously you had to find its name and manually search Spotify, but that’s now an end.
Spotify is working with Instagram on a new feature that makes integrating songs from your feed into your playlist easier than ever before. All you have to do is tap it and you don’t even have to leave the app.
Here’s how to do it. You can also read more about Spotify’s new offline feature and our simple hack to avoid annoying YouTube ads.
How to save songs from Instagram to your Spotify playlist
Spotify has informed us that this feature will be rolled out globally from October 17. We tested it successfully on both iPhone and Android in the UK.
If you don’t see the feature yet, make sure your apps are up to date, or wait a few days to see if it becomes available.
Here are the steps you need to take, along with screenshots:
- Make sure both the Instagram and Spotify apps are up to date by checking the app store
- While scrolling through Instagram, tap a song you like
- You will then be taken to the song’s audio page
- Tap the ‘add’ button on the right with the Spotify logo (next to the play controls and below the big ‘use audio’ button)
- The first time you do this, you will be asked to link your Spotify account
- Click on ‘Agree’ to the general terms and conditions. You can revoke access at any time via your settings
- You can find newly saved songs in your ‘Liked Songs’ playlist and under ‘Your Library’ in Spotify
- Once the accounts are linked, the ‘Add’ button lets you save songs with one tap

Please note that this feature does not work for all audio, especially if it is original (such as dialogue or an edited piece). When you see an artist and a song appear, it’s like you’re being supported.
For numbers that are not, the ‘add’ button will not be displayed.
