Ryan Clark no longer plays a role Mike Tomlinbut if he did… he makes it clear that he would tell the Steelers head coach to officially name him Justin Fields the starting quarterback as soon as possible.
The former Pittsburgh defensive back said in an interview with TMZ Sports this week he believes a formal announcement would help his former team immensely.
Of course, Tomlin still has to do it…as he still seems to be debating whether or not the team should stick with Fields, or move on Russell Wilson when the former Super Bowl champion is 100 percent healthy.
However, Fields has been very good through the Steelers’ first three games (leading Pitt to a 3-0 record) and Clark says it’s now time for the 25-year-old signal caller to take full control.
“I loved knowing every week we were going to be in line Ben Roethlisberger and if he threw an interception and things went bad, he was our guy and we stuck with him,” Clark said.

“With that indecisiveness and not necessarily knowing that it’s going to be Justin Fields or Russell Wilson for the rest of the season, that’s a little difficult.”
Nevertheless, Clark praised Fields for handling the situation extremely well.
As for whether he thinks the Steelers can keep the hot streak going with or without the formal naming of a QB1 – Clark said absolutely … as long as the team continues to get solid play from the quarterback position.
