Stephen Curry officially works with Comcast to tell the true story of the Underdog cheer team that has written history, Variety has learned exclusively.
Curry and Erick Peyton produce executive ‘Spirit’ with their multimedia company, unanimous media, in collaboration with the Content Studios and Freshfly workshop. The four -part series follows the team of the George Washington High School that became the first cheer team of the Philadelphia school district to take it all the way to the NCA High School Nationals.
The series is directed by Matt Howley, a resident of Philadelphia. Together with the series announcement, unanimous media has released an official trailer, with the Cheer team while hardening a new story for themselves.
“Spirit” is a coming-of-age story about a group of young athletes who beat the opportunities and show how a sport can transform an individual, a team and a school, “said Curry and Peyton in a joint explanation. “During the series we follow their journey while we see how competitive cheerleading gives these children a sense of goal and opportunity. ‘Spirit’ is the ultimate underdog story, and we are enthusiastic to the public to see the team do what they do best: prove that people are wrong. ”
“Spirit” is not the first time that basketball champion Curry has worked on a Hollywood project after the Sundance premiere of 2023 of the documentary “Stephen Curry: Underrated.” He recently had his first scripted television role in “Mr. Throwback,” A Mockumerary series that he produced executive. He also “produced” convicted, a peacal documentary who investigated the modern epidemic of illiteracy in children.
“Spirit” will be available to stream 27 February, exclusively on the black experience of Comcast on Xfinity. View the trailer below.
