A professor at the Colorado School of Mines was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide in the suspected drunken driving crash that killed one Golden police officer and sent another to the hospital last week.
Stephen Geer, 43, is charged with felony murder and vehicular assault while driving under the influence, as well as misdemeanor assault and driving under the influence, court records show.
Golden police officer Evan Dunn and his partner, Bethany Grusing, were investigating a separate crash on Colorado 58 when Geer collided with the rear of one of the cars parked on the side of the road, causing the pair was forced underneath, police said.
Dunn was killed in the crash and Grusing was seriously injured.
Flags across Colorado flew at half-staff Wednesday for Dunn’s memorial service, which was not open to the public.
Geer posted his $250,000 bail on Nov. 7, the same day set by Jefferson County Court Judge Thomas Vance, and appeared in court Thursday morning for a arraignment hearing.
His next court date had not yet been set as of Thursday morning, according to court records.
