Summary of Jon Stewart's Harris-Trump debate

Jon Stewart appeared live on “The Daily Show” Tuesday night, where he shared his reaction to the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Stewart highlighted several moments from tonight’s debate, including Trump and Harris’ positions on abortion and Trump’s comments about immigrants eating pets.

Stewart’s opening played dueling clips of Trump and Harris’ responses to the abortion issue, including the former president saying “we got what everyone wanted” after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

“I’ve spoken to women all over our country. Do you want to talk about this, is this what people wanted? Harris responded. “Pregnant women who want to carry a pregnancy to term, who are suffering from a miscarriage, who are being denied care in the emergency room because the providers are afraid they will go to jail – and she is bleeding in a car in the parking lot? She didn’t want that.”

“Holy shit, she crushed that,” Stewart said in response to Harris’ comments on abortion rights.

“This is like one of those ‘Groundhog Day’ movies where you go back and fix the bad way something happened before and fix it the right way,” Stewart continued.

The “Daily Show” host later joked about Trump’s false comments about immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.

“They eat the dogs,” Trump said during the debate. “The people who came in, they eat the cats. They eat the pets of the people who live there.”

“Having spent some time in Springfield myself, I think I know what’s going on here,” Stewart said. “I believe Trump himself could become one of Springfield’s most famous residents.” The show was then turned into a segment of Abe, better known as Grampa Simpson, from ‘The Simpsons’.

On a more serious note, Stewart criticized Trump’s response to the January 6 insurrection; the former president repeatedly claimed that Nancy Pelosi was responsible because “she didn’t do her job.”

“I had nothing to do with that, except that they asked me to give a speech. I showed up for a speech,” Trump said.

“You spent two months setting up your base that literally had our country fraudulently stolen from them, which you could never get a whiff of in a court of law, and you just let yourself be taken advantage of,” Stewart said in response. “You pushed through. You abused their trust. You showed up for a speech? You fucking tweeted, “Come with me on January 6th, it’ll be wild.”

Stewart continued: “One thing will always be true, and it is the quality of the former president that I respect the least: whenever he is cornered and forced to face even the smallest consequences for his own mendacity and schemes see, he returns to the largest. haven for scoundrels.”

The host then shared a message with Trump’s supporters, saying: “This man who continually claims to be your champion, who says they will have to go through him to get to you, will always do so if the boat sinks. , be the first in the lifeboats, because at that moment he will always say the same thing: ‘I didn’t know anything about it.’”

“In any other country, that lack of responsibility would be disqualifying,” Stewart said.
