After Sydney Sweeney was photographed sunbathing in a bikini, the images led to a wave of critical comments about her appearance.
Sweeney, 27, didn’t pass up the digs, but quickly shut them down by posting them to her Instagram. In a video on social media on Friday, December 13, Sweeney made a montage of all the criticism.
“Too pale and she needs to lose some bindings around the model,” one wrote, while another chimed in: “Whoever this person is, she has a terrible body.”
Other social media users called Sweeney’s body “very fat” and speculated that the actress could be an “Ozempic candidate.” (Ozempic and similar semaglutides are prescribed for individuals struggling with weight-related conditions. The injections are not recommended for incidental weight loss.)
Sweeney reposted the video to her Instagram Story on Saturday, December 14, with the caption: “Christi Martin Strong 💪 💪 🥊 .”
Sweeney was recently cast as Martin, a former professional boxer, in an upcoming biopic.
“Well, the cats out of the bag…so here’s a little BTS from my movie I’m working on right now,” the Everyone but you star wrote via Instagram in October. “Over the past few months, I have immersed myself in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman: a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.”
Sweeney added, “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength and hope, and I am honored to walk in her shoes and share her powerful story with all of you. More soon.”
Sweeney’s passionate slam was also supported by some of her peers in Hollywood. She even reposted makeup artist Melissa Hernández‘s own comments on the video.
“PERIOD!” Hernandez wrote via her Instagram Story. “So proud @sydney_sweeney for embracing her transformation for this role – your dedication and strength are truly inspiring. It’s heartbreaking how cruel and miserable people can be, but don’t let their negative side overshadow your brilliance.”
Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced And Lili Reinhart were among the other celebrities who had Sweeney’s back.
“It’s always wild to see people publicly beside themselves as pieces of s— with comments like that,” Reinhart, 28, responded Friday. “You look fantastic and your dedication to your project is very inspiring 💪🏻❤️.”
For her part, Merced, 23, added: “The thing is, these people would never say it in person. Too scared. But if they ever did? best believe they are hands 😘.”
Sweeney’s mother, Lisaalso noted in a separate comment that she was “extremely proud” of the Euphoria alum.
