Teaser of 'Yellowstone' season 5 part 2 removed after Kevin Costner's departure

“Yellowstone” is almost back. The Paramount Network series has unveiled its first teaser for the highly anticipated second half of Season 5.

The beloved Paramount Network series, created by Taylor Sheridan — who has run reruns on CBS — first launched in 2018. It has since become a cable phenomenon.

The eight-episode first half of Season 5 aired from November 2022 to January 2023; the second half of six episodes will debut on November 10, 2024.

Paramount Network released a short teaser for the second part of Season 5 on Friday. “Legacy. You’re building something worth having. Someone’s going to try to take it away,” Kevin Costner’s John Dutton says at the start of the video.

“What I do is not for the ranch. It’s for us,” says Cole Hauser’s Rip, as Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton pulls out a knife from somewhere. There are also quick shots of FBI agents raiding a building, throngs of riders and tense conversations.

Season 5, Part 2 also released some first footage on Thursday. Newcomers can enjoy a “Yellowstone” marathon this weekend on Paramount Network, starting Friday, September 30 at 7pm PT/10pm ET through Monday, September 2.

Last December, it was reported that lead actor Costner would leave “Yellowstone” and focus on directing his two-part Western film “Horizon.” In June, he confirmed his departure ahead of the premiere of “Horizon: Part One,” which was a disappointment at the box office.

In September, Costner threatened to sue the producers of “Yellowstone” during a child support hearing, part of his divorce proceedings against Christine Baumgartner. The actor claimed that he should still have been paid $12 million for the second half of season 5 due to a “pay or play” clause, noting that the “long, difficult negotiations” led to his departure. Neither the studio nor the network have commented on Costner’s departure from the series.

Paramount is preparing its post-“Yellowstone” future, greenlighting a modern-day spinoff of the series, titled “The Madison,” with Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett in the cast. There’s also the chance that a surprise Season 6 could be officially greenlit, centering on Reilly and Hauser’s characters.

“’Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King’, and I’m confident that our follow-up to ‘Yellowstone’ will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative minds of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement announcing “2024.”
