A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed during a home invasion in Aurora on Tuesday morning. The police are looking for a suspect.
Aurora officers responded around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a home invasion and shooting at an apartment complex in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue, according to a police news release.
When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Investigators have not said where she was shot.
The girl lived with her family in the apartment that was burglarized, but no one else was injured, Aurora police spokesman Joe Moylan said. Police are unsure if any items were taken from the apartment.
The block is home to the Willowick Apartments, a car rental company, a used car dealer and other businesses. It is located just east of South Havana Street and south of East Colorado Avenue.
Officers performed life-saving measures on the girl until paramedics arrived on the scene and rushed her to the hospital, where she later died, police said.
The teen will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
Police have not yet identified a suspect, but say the investigation is active and ongoing.
