Colombia’s left -wing President Gustavo Petro said on Sunday that he would not allow us migrant depository flights access to the airspace of his country.
“The United States cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals. I forbid access to our territory for American planes that wear Colombian migrants,” Petro wrote on X, add migrants.
Petro added in a later report that he had “reversed American military planes that came with Colombian migrants”, without giving further details.
AFP could not immediately receive a confirmation from the United States that Colombian bound deportation flights were blocked.
Petro’s comments come a day after the government of Brazil expressed indignation in the same way about the administration of the new US President Donald Trump about the treatment of dozens of Brazilians deported from the United States.
The migrants were fascinated in what Brazil called a “blatant contempt” for their basic rights.
Petro said he would allow the American flights to allow deported migrants, as long as they were not treated ‘as criminals’.
