Third suspect arrested in Taylor Swift terror attack plot

Austrian authorities have arrested a third suspect in connection with an alleged terrorist attack that targeted them Taylor Swift‘has now been cancelled Eras tour performances in Vienna.

Austrian Minister of the Interior Gerard Karner said on Friday, August 9, that an 18-year-old was arrested on Thursday, August 8, reports the Associated press. Karner said the teen had been in contact with the 19-year-old main suspect in the case, who was arrested earlier this week along with a 17-year-old suspect.

The 18-year-old “comes from the social environment” of the main suspect, Karner said, according to AP. Both the 18-year-old and the main suspect are accused of sworn allegiance to ISIS.

“He had been in contact with the main perpetrator, but has no direct connection with the attack plans,” the Austrian minister said. “But as was discovered a few days ago, he specifically took an oath of allegiance to ISIS on August 6.”

Swift was due to perform three concerts at Ernst Happel Stadium between Thursday, August 8 and Saturday, August 10, as part of her record-breaking performance. Eras tour. However, concert promoter Barracuda Music announced on Wednesday, August 7, that all three shows had been canceled due to credible information about a “planned terrorist attack” at the venue.

The Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehemer defended the cancellations while speaking at a press conference on Thursday, according to AP.

“I understand very well that those who wanted to experience the concert live are very sad,” said Nehammer. “Mothers and fathers care for their daughters and sons, who watched this concert with enthusiasm and anticipation. But it is also important that at such serious moments as now it is inevitable that safety comes first.”

Swift will next perform live in London when she returns to Wembley Stadium for five shows between August 15 and 20, following three sold-out performances in June.

London’s Metropolitan Police said Thursday that the thwarted attack in Vienna should not affect Swift’s shows in the city.

“There is no indication that the cases being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London,” police said in a statement. “As always, we will continue to carefully review any new information.”

Swift has not yet publicly commented on the alleged terror plot or the canceled concerts in Vienna.
