Three men charged with attempted murder in ‘rolling shootout’ in Aurora

Three dead in motorcycle crashes in metro Denver this weekend

Three men involved in a “rolling gunfight” in Aurora in July and two other shootings in metro Denver have been charged with 12 crimes, including attempted murder, according to court records.

Aurora officials said 23-year-old Jose Daniel Gimenez-Chacin, 29-year-old Alonzo Lara and 29-year-old Yilbert Fransua Maldonado-Moncada were each charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder. -degree assault and one count of first-degree assault – all felonies – in Arapahoe District Court.

On July 28 around 11:45 p.m., security footage shows a black Land Rover SUV and a white Ford F150 pickup driving along South Havana Street as the passengers shoot at each other. Aurora police said in a news release Tuesday.

An Aurora police car near Havana and East Idaho Place, a pedestrian in the 1500 block of Havana and four other victims were caught in the crossfire, investigators said.

Forensic analysis of shell casings from the Aurora police car and pedestrian shootings linked the three suspects to another shooting in Aurora earlier that day and a third shooting in Denver several hours later, police said in the news release.

Police said Gimenez-Chacin, Lara and Maldonado-Moncada are believed to be the driver and two passengers of the Land Rover involved in the July shootout.

Gimenez-Chacin and Lara were arrested and charged in October, according to court records. Aurora investigators said Maldonado-Moncada was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the time and made his first court appearance last Thursday for the July 28 shooting.

Gimenez-Chacin is being held on a $750,000 bond, but his next court date was not available. Lara is being held on a $500,000 bond and is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on February 26, 2025. Maldonado-Moncada is being held on a $250,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on January 30, 2025 appear in court. for a preliminary hearing, according to court records.
