“It’s hard to lose,” Walz said. “It is difficult to understand why so many of our fellow citizens – so many of the people we have fought so long and hard for – have chosen a different path. It’s hard to predict what that path will feel like over the next four years. So if you’re feeling deflated and discouraged today, I understand. Take your time, take care of yourself, take care of your loved ones, take care of your community.”
Walz encouraged his supporters to get back to work once the grief over Vice President Kamala Harris’ election loss subsides.
“Come back into this fight when you’re ready,” Walz said. “And know that when you are ready to join that fight again, I will be standing here, ready to take the fight to you.”
In his speech, Walz said he was grateful to have been chosen as Harris’ vice presidential pick and acknowledged the difficult road ahead.
“Look, we know what’s going to happen,” Walz said — an apparent reference to Project 2025, the far-right policy plan that could come to fruition under the next Trump administration.
“We know because they told us,” Walz said. “And we will have to be ready to defend the progress we have made here in Minnesota.”
As governor of the state, Walz said he will continue to fight for his constituents.
“I love this country, I love this state, I love this job, and I’m not done fighting for Minnesota,” he said.
