Two little dogs were very lucky after falling through the ice Aurora’s Utah Park Wednesday morning and managed to pull themselves out, fire and rescue officials said.
The pups were about 10 to 15 feet from shore when they fell through the ice, Aurora Fire Rescue officials said in a news release. A bystander called 911 and the agency’s rescue team responded, but the dogs managed to pull themselves out of the water before crews could reach them.
One dog immediately ran away and could not be located, but emergency services took the second dog in an ambulance to warm him up before handing him over to animal control to find the owner.
People should not try to rescue pets or people who fall through the ice because they could fall in too, Aurora officials said. Instead, throw them a flotation device or rope and call 911.
