Authorities issue a shelter-in-place order for the Superior neighborhood

Two Thornton officers were shot Wednesday morning while responding to reports of shots fired at a home in Thornton. Police are warning people to avoid the area.

Thornton officers responded Wednesday to reports of gunshots coming from a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street, according to an 8:54 a.m. report. statement from the police.

As of 9:30 a.m., shots were still being fired from the home and officers were attempting to make contact with the suspect, police said.

Two Thornton officers were shot and are receiving medical treatment at the scene, police said in a release 9:31 am update.
