UEFA Champions League Power Rankings: Barca and Real Madrid score impressive wins on the road; Man City in big trouble

1 Liverpool — The first team qualified for the round of 16. Even when Liverpool are not at their best, they have had no problems getting the job done in the Champions League. Concerns will begin to creep in that it may be a little too easy for them to keep this up, but the victories speak for themselves. 2 Barcelona — Even if Robert Lewandowski doesn’t score, Barcelona just gets the job done. This team is unreal and there is no such thing as them not having a game anymore. 3 Arsenal +1 By scoring their first goal from open play in more than two games, Arsenal were able to show that they are contenders for a Champions League title and that Bukayo Saka is one of the best players in the world. 4 Below -1 Conceding their first goal in the Champions League and not securing a place in the last 16 will be a disappointment for Simone Inzaghi, but it happens. They are still the top contenders to win the entire competition. 5 Bayer Leverkusen +1 Leverkusen’s adjustments after the fall to Liverpool were a welcome sight, and beating Inter is quite a victory for Xabi Alonso’s side as they look to reach a second successive European final. 6 Atalanta -1 Giving Real Madrid all they could handle, it was a good performance for Ademola Lookman, and for Atalanta it was one of those days where the odds weren’t quite going their way. 7 Lille — It took a little more than expected to beat Sturm Graz, but once again Lille are taking care of business and the French sides are still quite high on the table. 8 Bayern Munich — It looked like Vincent Kompany’s side would start to worry without Harry Kane, after he quickly went ahead after five minutes behind in the match and everything is going well, with five goals as a result. Bayern is not out of the problem yet, but this is enough. 9 Atletico Madrid +5 Nine goals in their last two games will do a little to show that Atletico Madrid are back. The strength of their competition for these victories may not have been the greatest, but you just have to get to the knockouts. 10 Milan +2 Battling injuries, this could be one of Milan’s best results this season if he comes back and wins without Alvaro Morata, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. 11 Monaco -2 Monaco may have seen their ceiling against Arsenal and scoring for every mistake they made. This is still a good team, just one that wants to reach the last 16. 12 Real Madrid +3 A win that came at a cost saw Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior all find the back of the net. While that is all good, it is also worrying for Carlo Ancelotti that Mbappé leaves the match in the first half due to an injury. 13 Aston Villa +3 Who had a Ross Barkley winner to push Villa into the top eight on their bingo card? It’s not pretty, but Villa are getting results in the European game under Unai Emery. 14 Borussia Dortmund -1 When Dortmund leveled twice, Barcelona gave it all they could handle and it still wasn’t enough to secure even a point. 15 Juventus +4 Draw FC finally broke the streak of four consecutive draws in all competitions and it was the first time ever an American assisted an American in a Champions League match, with Weston McKennie scoring from a Tim Weah cross. 16 Brest +2 An excellent goalkeeping performance from Marco Bizot keeps Brest’s good run going as they climb the table in this first UCL campaign. 17 Paris Saint Germain +5 Two assists from Achraf Hakimi helped right the ship somewhat for the Parisians. There is still more work to do, but everything has to start somewhere. 18 Sporty CP -8 Four consecutive defeats after Ruben Amorim left for Manchester United are a sign of a downward spiral that may not be broken anytime soon. Sporting, one of the dark horses to make it into the top eight, could disappear from Europe entirely if things don’t change soon. 19 Manchester city -8 With just one win in their last ten games it’s hard to say who this team is, but it’s not the Manchester City we know. They may not even have a chance of reaching the last 16 after finding themselves among the favorites to win the entire tournament. 20 Benfica -3 Creating enough chances to win, this is one of Benfica’s most disappointing games they have experienced this stage of the competition, and with not much separating the teams at the top, this is a costly result. 21 ClubBruges +2 One team’s defeat is another’s fortune and that is exactly what happened when Brugge defeated Sporting CP at home. It is a match that would be labeled as a loss and which will be of great importance to bring Brugge to the knockouts. 22 VfB Stuttgart +3 Needing a statement win, the German side dropped five to Young Boys to have a chance of advancing to the knockouts. 23 Celtic -2 A draw against Dinamo Zagreb is not great, but securing points is better than not securing any points. 24 Feyenoord +3 Santiago Gimenez is back with a goal and an assist, as are Feyenoord, who storm the table and slot the ball into the back of the net. 25 PSV +5 Matches such as an away match against Brest are matches that the Dutch team must win to secure a place among the last 24 teams. A standing match could prove costly. 26 Dinamo Zagreb -2 Because things cannot be arranged at home, this team could miss out on the top 24. 27 Girona -1 Girona stood firm against Liverpool and gave everything they had, but as this tournament has shown, everything they have is not enough to pick up wins. 28 Crvena zvezda — They are coming close to securing a result against Milan and they will find it difficult not to come away with a win, but this is how Crvena Zvezda’s campaign has gone. 29 Sparta Praha — An excellent start after going unbeaten in the first two UCL games is now well behind Sparta and this is another team that could struggle to reach the knockout stages. 30 SK Sturm Graz — They are now scoring goals, but need to stop conceding to turn these nice performances into results. 31 Shaktar Donetsk — It was a nice few minutes with Bayern Munich taking the lead. 32 Bologna +2 With their backs against the wall heading for elimination, Bologna held on to win a draw in Portugal, but they still need wins. 33 RB Salzburg — It is a tournament to quickly forget for all Red Bull teams. 34 RB Leipzig -2 The first team out of contention for the knockouts is unlikely to be the German side and this is quite a disappointment considering the talent and potential. 35 Young boys — On an emotional day after Meschack Elia’s son died, Young Boys was able to score an away goal to celebrate. 36 Slovan Bratislava — Welp, another game and another three goals conceded.
