Kiev:
At least six people have been killed and 59 others injured in a Russian attack on the eastern city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian officials have said.
Russia launched a guided bomb attack from the Belgorod region, hitting five locations, including a 12-story apartment building, Kharkov regional governor Oleg Synegubov wrote on Telegram on Friday.
The victims included a 14-year-old girl, he noted.
The governor added that 20 of the injured are in serious or critical condition.
“Occupiers killed a child on the playground,” Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in a statement on Telegram.
Rescuers and aid workers are working at the scene of the attacks, according to the National Emergency Situations Service.
An alleged video from the site, shared by Andriy Yermak, head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, showed flames and thick black smoke coming from the upper part of the building.
“Russians have again attacked civilians,” Yermak said on Telegram.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, is located about 35 km from the Russian border.
