A former Conservative MP has said fewer people should go to university, saying it is not a breeding ground for people who don’t want to go to work.
Speaking GB News, Philip Davies said: “A lot of people who get their A-levels don’t pass their A-levels but are still given the opportunity to go to university because everyone has the view that: ‘I have the right to go to to go to university. ‘.
“What happens is that people who should go to university are put off because of the cost, because they essentially have to subsidize those who shouldn’t go to university.
“What we should have is a system where far fewer people have to go to university. We want the best people to go to university, and I would be very happy if they go, without having to pay tuition for the best people.
“The people who get the best results at A-level go to university. They shouldn’t be subsidizing people who aren’t qualified to go to college, and that’s what’s happening right now.
“The university is not a nursery where people can just sit for a while because they don’t feel like going to work yet.”
