The US mission here has issued a security alert urging its citizens not to visit Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province until December 16 due to “security concerns.”
The security alert titled ‘Threat to Serena Hotel, Peshawar’, which advised the US mission personnel to avoid the said hotel in Peshawar, the capital of the province, was issued on Wednesday and advised caution with immediate effect.
“US citizens are encouraged to avoid the hotel and the area surrounding the hotel during this time and to reconsider their travel plans,” the statement read, reminding US citizens to follow the ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory issued in September for the same province was issued to be consulted again “due to terrorism.”
The September 10 advisory lists the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at ‘Level 4’ of the threat perception under the ‘Do not travel’ category.
“Active terrorist and insurgent groups routinely carry out attacks on civilians, non-governmental organizations, government buildings and security forces.
“These groups have historically targeted government officials as well as citizens. Attempts at assassination and kidnapping are common, including attacks on polio eradication teams and Pakistani security forces personnel (police and military), it said.
There has been an increase in terror activities and attacks on security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in recent months.
