Use this hidden camera detector to feel safer in an Airbnb

TikTok and LinkedIn have both told me that there is a pretty alarming problem regarding hotel and Airbnb guests find hidden camerasaudio recorders and other surveillance equipment hidden in their rooms. It’s definitely scary, especially if you want to feel safe enough in your privacy to really relax. And in my case: eat a whole New York Cheesecake (with a little raspberry drizzle).

Searching every inch of my Airbnb isn’t my idea of a relaxing way to start a vacation, but there’s actually a tool that makes it a lot easier. The hidden camera detector can check for audio bugs, GPS and RF signals, and of course hidden cameras, making me feel safe enough to eat as many decadent room service desserts as possible.

How to feel safer in your Airbnb

Using the Camera detector is quite simple. It may look like advanced spy equipment, but every function is quite intuitive. This is how it works:

  1. Turn on the detector: Once you arrive at your hotel, Airbnb or vacation rental, turn on the device.
  2. Swipe for RF signals: Start scanning the room and keep the detector close to objects where hidden devices may be hidden. As you move, the RF detection scans for signals coming from wireless cameras or audio bugs. When the device detects a signal, the buzzer sounds and the LED lights indicate how strong the signal is.
  3. Use the camera lens viewfinder: For a thorough check, especially in areas where you suspect a camera is physically hidden but not actively transmitting, switch to the camera lens viewfinder. Look through the device’s viewfinder as you scan the room with infrared light. Any hidden lenses reflect the light back.
  4. Check for GPS trackers: If you are concerned that you may be tracked, especially in a rental car or while traveling, switch the detector to magnetic field mode. Carefully scan the undercarriage of your vehicle or other places where a tracker may be hidden.

Cheaper than room service

Once I’ve properly checked my room, I know it’s safe to relax and indulge in all the room service my credit card can muster.

If you want to do the same, buy the Hidden camera, bug, GPS and RF detector for $39.99 (reg. $59).
