Valerie Bertinelli feels proud of her body and she wants the world to know it.
Bertinelli, 64, took to social media on Tuesday, December 3, to share a mirror selfie of her bikini-clad frame. Looking sleek in a black and white bikini as she flashed a slight smile at the camera, the Food Network alum snapped Instagram photographed just before she tried to color her roots.
“At some point I’ll talk about the madness my body has been through this year,” she captioned the candid image. “But right now, every bump, wrinkle, and saggy part of me just feels acceptance and simple appreciation for standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom in downtown Manhattan, ready to color my roots late on a Monday night.”
The post arrived just days after the celebrity chef shared on Instagram Stories that she had fallen and injured her knee. “I still have the knees of a 9 year old because I fall way too many times than what is comfortable for someone my actual age,” Bertinelli wrote in her Friday, November 29 post.
Bertinelli has documented many important reflections over the past year, as well as serious health updates, including her struggles with anxiety.
On Sunday, November 17, Bertinelli uploaded a clip of her shaking hand, accompanying the video with a courageous explanation. “So I don’t know if you can tell from this video (and my heart is still beating a little fast as I write this) that I had a really bad anxiety attack today. I haven’t had one like this in a long time,” she captioned the video. “A few hours ago I was crying uncontrollably, and my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. I couldn’t stop shaking.”
Bertinelli continued, “I want to share because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has experienced this. Fortunately, these attacks have become much rarer, so this one surprised me a bit today. This is the after effect. While I’m going through the actual attack (lol attack is such an appropriate word. My body and mind feel like it’s actually under attack 😅).”
She added that during these attacks, her brain was “overthinking and catastrophizing,” causing her body to “go into overdrive,” noting that she had “no control.”
Less than a month earlier, Bertinelli also shared a dramatic injury to her arm and labeled herself a klutz in the photo’s Instagram caption. “I would ask for hazard pay but it was my own damn fault,” she captioned the Oct. 30 post. “I’ve been working on a really fun new project that I can’t wait to tell you about and this is what happens when you literally trip over the corner of a stage and fall on your butt in front of the crew. And the entire audience.”
