After looking to the 1960s in their recent resort collection, Veronica Swanson Beard and Veronica Miele Beard hoped to bottle something more ephemeral for spring 2025: the It-Girl. “You can always imagine that girl,” says Swanson Beard. ‘It’s all about her je ne sais quoiher style and how she puts things together. It’s this relaxed, luxurious, casual atmosphere.”
The Veronicas hoped to capture the It-Girl spirit in part through an extensive denim offering, from jeans to jackets. “Denim has a big emphasis for us this season. [An It-Girl] always has this statement denim,” Swanson Beard said. Menswear-inspired slouchy suits also take center stage. (They’re hesitant to rely too much on their favorite Dickey jacket, opting instead for heat-friendly options.) “We’ve done a lot of short-sleeve blazers, some pedal suits and vest suits,” Miele Beard explains.
The duo is resolutely above silent luxury and here they fall back on loud prints. “Print is so completely polarizing, very personal,” says Swanson Beard. After a spring 2024 collection with muted colors and minimal print (save for a single stripe), the designers didn’t hold back, exploring everything from navy blue and white leather stripes to a floral charmeuse. Even their denim is patterned; they tried out a set of denim shorts and eyelet jacket, as well as laser-printed paisley jeans. “We have a printed language that we always seem to go back to as a brand,” Miele Beard added. “You can figure it out.”
While they acknowledge that prints aren’t for everyone, the duo is at its best when they ignore the trendy stuff and embrace their personal taste. The glittery multicolored striped knit set and the green charmeuse maxi dress with long sleeves and a pink floral pattern are not necessarily the pedal pushers and cardigans that some It-Girls are wearing today. But isn’t an It-Girl someone who has an unwavering confidence in their style, regardless of what’s popular?
