During her interrogation in June 1998, Ramsey’s mother, Patsy, was “horrified” when confronted with the news that her strangled daughter had possibly been sexually assaulted.
Although many are suspected of Ramsey’s murder, no one has been officially charged. In 2006, teacher John Mark Karr confessed to the child’s murder.
Karr, who was also linked to child pornography charges at the time, claimed to have drugged Ramsey before sexually assaulting her and accidentally killing her. However, many of Karr’s claims were refuted under scrutiny, and Ramsey’s autopsy revealed that she had not been drugged.
Karr’s DNA also did not match what was found on the body.
