Embattled Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed plans to add new players to his squad in the January transfer window. The Spanish manager pointed out that his players have asked him to make some signings in January to help them.

Manchester City has been plagued by injuries this season and appears unable to defend the Premier League title it has won four times in a row. The Cityzens lost Oscar Bobb to a broken leg in the summer, followed by an ACL injury to 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri. There have been further injuries at various points this season, leaving Guardiola’s flank worn down.

Pep Guardiola revealed to Prime Video Sport ahead of his side facing Everton in the early kick-off on Boxing Day that plans are being made to sign new players. The manager revealed that the squad members had also asked him to add new players in the January transfer window.

“If we can, we should add players in January… definitely! We had a hard time, especially at the back, in the middle. I think even the players were wondering… are we going to add some players?! Please!”.

Manchester City was largely inactive in terms of revenue in the summer transfer window, only signing Ilkay Gundogan and Savinho. This despite the sale of Julian Alvarez, Sergio Gomez, Joao Cancelo and a number of other youngsters.

Pep Guardiola’s side lacked the depth that made them so strong in the Premier League this season, leading to a dismal run of form. The Cityzens have won just one of their last twelve matches in all competitions, losing nine times in that run.

Pep Guardiola without a quintet as Manchester City prepare for the Everton test

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola once again has a meager selection left for the confrontation with Everton in the Premier League. The Cityzens are without five senior players for the Boxing Day match at the Etihad Stadium, with several youngsters on the bench.

Goalkeeper Ederson, defenders John Stones and Kyle Walker, and midfielders Jack Grealish and Matheus Nunes are all noticeably absent from the matchday squad for the Cityzens. This group joins Ruben Dias, Rodri and Oscar Bobb, among others, who were already certain that they would miss the match due to an injury.

17-year-old goalkeeper Spike Brits is one of two goalkeepers on the bench alongside Scott Carson, while the likes of Divin Mubama, Max Alleyne, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Nico O’Reilly are on the bench. Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and James McAtee are also among the champion’s replacements.
