I like to think I’m a good texter. Although all notifications are turned off by default, I generally respond in a timely manner and go far beyond the bare minimum in my responses.
If I actually get around to finishing the post, that is. Too many times lately I’ve started typing a reply on WhatsApp only to get distracted and completely forget about it.
The problem? That notification has now disappeared from the top of the screen, meaning I no longer see my half-written message unless I manually open the app and select that conversation.
To make matters worse, I turned on read receipts (even though they’re easy to turn off) so the other person can see that I read their message and apparently decided not to reply. That’s not the case, I promise!
Fortunately, WhatsApp has a solution on the way. Known as ‘Message Drafts’, it shows the message you’ve typed as a draft on the home screen, so you can quickly see if it needs your attention. That conversation will then be moved to the top of your chat list so you can’t miss it.
As someone who opens WhatsApp several times a day, this is a perfect solution. Instead of forgetting a message and having to apologize when I finally reply days later, I’m reminded of my unfinished message within a few hours.
It’s a small change, but one that will make a big difference to my messaging experience. WhatsApp owner Meta hasn’t revealed exactly when Message Drafts will be available on Android or iPhone, but it won’t be long. As far as I’m concerned, it can’t come soon enough.
