The spooky season is almost here and this year it’s all about the witches. After Agatha Harkness debuted her coven on Disney+, a new magical story is on the way. Wicked, the film from Universal Pictures, takes you to the Land of Oz and tells the true story of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Sound familiar? Certainly – Wicked is the film adaptation of the musical of the same name, based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. As if it weren’t complicated enough, the book is derived from the famous novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. However, Maguire offers a subversive take on the characters while analyzing the subject of evil.
The film will follow a similar path. The main character is Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), a young woman misunderstood because of her green skin. When she arrives at Shiz University, she unexpectedly befriends the popular Galinda Upland (Ariana Grande). However, after meeting the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), the two friends take different directions, becoming the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
The Wicked movie will obviously be a musical, so you can expect a lot of catchy tunes that illustrate that story of good and evil.

When can Wicked tickets go on sale?
The new blockbuster from Universal Pictures will be released in British cinemas on Monday, November 18, 2024.
In the US, Wicked opens a few days later, on Friday, November 22, 2024. This means that the witch story will compete for viewers’ attention with the highly anticipated Gladiator 2. Ridley Scott’s epic story will also open in the US on November 22. cinemas debut. November.
