When will I get my W-2? Deadline for employers to send was January 31

When should my W-2 form appear?

We officially won the deadline of Friday 31 January for employers to email W-2 forms that report the income and deduction of an employee.

Usually you would have that W-2 in hand in the first week of February. But you may have found it online earlier through your employer or by importing it directly when using a tax preparation company.

Nothing has changed This tax season When it comes to the timeline for receiving your W-2, but many people still ask for it year after year.

According to the IRS, your employer is obliged to provide or send Form W-2Known as a “wage and tax statement” to you at the latest on January 31. However, if it is emailed, the IRS says that you must allow time to receive it before contacting your employer. If you still do not receive the form at the beginning of February, the IRS can help you by requesting your employer’s form.

More for tax season: Can you deduct your home office on your taxes? It is not only ‘if’ the key is ‘why’.

If you do not receive your W-2 before 15 February, it will be proposed that you can call the IRS on 800-829-1040. A former employer who is no longer in operation is still obliged to deliver a W-2.

Some employers also offer online access to W-2 forms.

In addition, some online tax programs can help find that data. For example, Turbotax notes that it cooperates with hundreds of wage leaders and financial institutions to enable tax theraps to automatically import W-2 and 1099 information directly into a declaration.

The new, free IRS system called Direct file – That is open for many, but not all taxpayers in 25 states this tax season – this year includes new functions to make it similar to software for commercial taxes. A Data import tool will enable taxpayers to automatically import data from their IRS account, including personal information, the IP-PIN from the taxpayer and some information from the W-2 of the taxpayer.

If you have held more than one job in 2024, make sure that you collect all your W-2 information from each of your employers.

The IRS remarks: “Every employer who deals with a trade or company who pays a fee, including non -cash payments of $ 600 or more for the year (all amounts if income, social security or medicine tax has been withheld) for Services provided by an employee must submit a form W-2 for every employee (even if the employee is related to the employer) of whom:

  • Income, social security or Medicare tax was withheld.

  • The income tax would have been deducted if the employee had claimed no more than one backlog or had not claimed an exemption to hold on to form W-4, withholding the employee’s employee.
