If you want to improve your fitness, a smart scale is a solid investment. It will offer you measurements that go beyond the weight to focus on, and a reliable and data -rich way to keep track of your progress. Withing scales are among the best available, promising weighing accuracy, which deliver a wide range of statistics and accompanied by a high-quality, free app.
You can also export your data to a wide range of other health apps, or for more fitness assistance, you can participate in the Withings+ subscription service paid. Withings+ is only available for people who buy certain models of hybrid smartwatch or scale, so if it is something you want, check before you invest.
Withings+ is essentially a series of health and fitness modules that are designed to promote good habits. They last six weeks and focus on specific elements of fitness, nutrition and sleeping health, giving you daily missions and targeted advice based on your goals. Withings+ costs £ 8.95 per month or £ 89.50 per year (US: $ 9.95/$ 99.50; EU € 9.95/€ 99.50), after a first free trial period that you can activate when you buy the scale.
A good reason to opt for a smart scale of Withings is if you already own or are considering buying, one of the hybrid smartwatches from Withings, including the ScanWatch 2, the Scanwatch Nova or the Scanwatch Nova Brilliant. Both looking and scale works work seamlessly with the app and together will follow all -round health and fitness.
So, if you want a Smith Smart Scale, which one should you buy? In this article we will discuss the latest range of Smart Scales: The Body Smart, The Body Comp and the Body Scan. We provide information about the prices, functions and pros and cons of each.
Incidentally, you can still buy older Withings models, including the Body Cardio (Withings UK, £ 149.95; Amazon US, $ 179.95). Read more about it in our review. Although this model has been replaced by the new range, it can still be worthwhile if you see one when you are offered.
What is a Smithings Smart Scale measure?
All three scales – the body Smart, the Body Comp and the Body Scan – will offer these measurements:
- Fat mass, muscle mass, bone mass
- Lean mass %, water %
- Visceral fat index – a measurement of the lake concerning fat that wraps itself around your organs and distinguishes from subcutaneous fat
- Body Mass Index (BMI) – Based on the body fat percentage of a user, this is a somewhat controversial measurement. But in combination with other statistics, it can offer useful information for many users
- Stane Hartslag – An indicator of cardiovascular fitness
- Basal metabolic speed (BMR) – The number of calories that your body burns at rest
- Metabolic age – based on the number of calories that your body burns at rest and compared to others in the same age category
In the app you also get a choice from specialized modes: athlete, baby (which only measures weight) and a special pregnancy mode. You can also add up to 8 profiles per scale, so that the whole family can use it.
The only real problem that we are confronted with when testing one of the withing scales is that they use the weight that you enter when making a profile to decide which user is a weighting. If two members of your household are of the same weight, this can send the data to the wrong profile, which is annoying to find out.
Body smart-the entry-level model
Emma Rowley / Foundry
Price: £ 89.95 / $ 99.95
Availability: Buy at Withings UK / Buy at Withings US
Color Options: Black or white
Current: AAA batteries (Withings estimates that one set will take up to 15 months)
Advantages: The Body Smart -like all new withings scales -is generous format (13x13in/ 33x33cm) and has a full -color screen that displays a series of statistics that you can adjust in the app. The corresponding app app is well designed and offers a lot of explanatory information about what measurements mean and why they are important. Although this is the most budget -friendly scale in Withings, it offers a high -quality, polished experience.
Disadvantages: Although the entry-level model of Body Smart is the entry-level model of Withings, it costs much more than actual budget scales from other brands and it does not offer many more functions. It will show you your resting heartbeat, which is quite rare, but the EUFY P2 Pro does that for much less. You must also know that the app makes you aware of the other measurements that you could have had access to, as long as you had bought one of the more expensive scales of Withings.
Extra functions: The Body Smart offers ‘closed mode’. Switch on this function and your weight is not displayed on the screen of the dish. Instead, the steps can follow, encourage messages or even only air quality or the weather at your location.

Body Comphet Midden Ranger Model

Body scan-it high-end model

Emma Rowley / Foundry
Price: £ 349.95 / $ 399.95
Availability: Buy it from Withings UK / Buy it from Withings US
Color Options: Black or white
Current: Rechargeable battery with a lifetime of a maximum of one year
Advantages: This is the ultimate smart scale. It is much more than a fitness scale. It also gives you information about your health.
Disadvantages: It is clear that price. But also for most people, the body scan will provide much more information than they need or know what to do. If your health is good, you essentially pay much, much more to see a few points on trend graphs that will not mean much to you.
Extra functions: Just like the Body Comp, the body scan offers a vascular age to give more insight into the health of the heart and a nervous health score. It will of course also offer the measurements shown above. But there is more.
Although there are only small differences between the hardware of the body Smart and the Body Comp, the body scan has an extra element: a retractable handle. In addition to the electrodes in the scale itself, there are four stainless steel electrodes in the handle, which make segmental analysis of the body composition possible.
What does this mean? Well, smart scales can tell you your body fat percentage to a reasonably accurate degree – but only in general. The body scan will further split this to give you the fat and muscle percentage in your arms, legs and trunk. It will also let you know how these measurements relate to users of other Withings.
It contains a 6-Lead ECG, with which the user’s heart rhythm is followed and analysis and that can detect worrying heart patterns.

Which Withings scale do you have to buy?
For people who are worried about their fitness, instead of their heart health, we think that the body Smart will do everything you want a smart scale to do – but you can get cheaper models from other brands that do the same, even if the experience is not so polished.
If you want more health feedback, the Body Comp is an excellent option. It is an extensive model that does every smart scale of every other brand.
And if you want as much health feedback as possible – with the emphasis on the health of the heart, the body scan is undoubtedly the leading product on the market.
Keep in mind that if you already have one of the scanwatch 2 models, you are able to get an ECG and heart health information from your watch, so that you can spend less on the scale.
But smart scales don’t have to be pricey. If you are looking for a simpler and much budget -friendly option, take a look at our summary of the best smart scales we have tested, with reliable smart scales for just $ 25/ £ 25.
