While the hours pass by with the New York Giants awaiting a message from a 41-year-old who brought a 5-12 team of Quarter bed last season, there is an inescapable feeling that they have chosen a terrible time to be looking for a QB rescger.
The giants are in a particularly dangerous position this season outside the season. The Daniel Jones experiment was a colossal failure, leaving them under contract without a quarterback, apart from Tommy Devito. The most striking contributions from Devito in two years have been a festive gesture and an unlikely three-game winning streak in 2023 that the Giants pushed out of the reach of a franchise quarterback in last year’s loaded design.
It went so far from the rails with Jones and everything around him in the past two seasons that general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll are on the hot chair in the year 4. Co-owner John Mara’s Postseason-Edict for an immediate change has repeated the last two months, since Schoen has tested every possible Quarterback option.
“It should not take too long because I have almost no patience anymore,” said Mara.
With that statement that removed every thought of a measured approach of the low season, Shoe applied the Full-Court Pers on Matthew Stafford for the first time when the Rams allowed the Super Bowl champion to explore its market value. The Giants were all-in on Stafford, willing to sign the 37-year-old for a contract that was supposed to be worth at least $ 50 million a year and to participate in the necessary draft compensation to complete a transaction.
But Stafford chose to stay in Los Angeles that the Giants forced to turn to plan B. Aaron Rodgers, the aforementioned 41-year-old Quarterback, came into the picture as that backup plan. It is not surprising that hunting Rodgers is dressed in mystery.
First, some seats had to be claimed in the competition -wide game of Quarterback Musical seats. Geno Smith was traded from the Seahawks to the Raiders; Sam Darnold left the Vikings for the Seahawks; Jones left the Vikings for the Colts; And Justin Fields left the Steelers for the jets. Those movements provided some clarity, so that Rodgers’ options reduce the giants and stalkers, with the Vikings looming like a dark horse.
Rodgers officially became available on Wednesday when the jets left him at 4 p.m. But he had been free to negotiate with other teams since the new Jets General Manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn announced their intention to continue with Rodgers on 13 February, as well as a willingness to eat $ 49 million in dead money in the next two years.
The new regime did not want to crochet its fortune to Rodgers after his two seasons in New York were a total flop. Rodgers tore his Achilles Four Snaps in his much hyped debut in the season opener of 2023 after a blockbuster trade from the packers. He returned last season and posted respectable songs, but it was not nearly enough to overcome a dysfunctional environment that led to the fired by coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
That shoe and Daboll are willing to attach their fate to the Mercurial Rodgers after his flame shows the jets how desperate they are to find a quarterback.
It is impossible to know how long the deliberations of Rodgers will last famous at a four-day Darkness Retreat in 2023 to determine whether he wanted to continue his Hall of Fame career. As soon as Rodgers announces his intentions, the Giants have a route map. Either they will roll at least one season with Rodgers, or they will focus their energy on Russell Wilson landing, who visited the team last year before they sign at the Steelers because he was informed that he would serve as a backup of Jones in New York.
The giants are not on their hands. They are planned to host Wilson for a visit on Friday, according to a team source. Perhaps complicating things for New York, the Browns Wilson will organize for a visit on Thursday, told competition sources told Athletics.
The vast process with big names has blown up the use of this Quarterback search. Whether it is about Rodgers, Wilson or Gulp – someone who is later in the list of options, the Giants still have to reach Maras indicated top priority: find the quarterback of the future.
Schoen and Daboll may be able to save their job by showing progress if Rodgers or Wilson de Giants lead to, for example, seven victories in 2025. But also not the answer in the long term.
That solution will have to come through the design. And the path to landing a quarterback is no clearer than this dark search for a suitable QB bridge.
The Titans have the number 1 pick and all signs indicate that they take Miami Quarterback Cam Ward with that selection. The Titans are not linked to one of the experienced Quarterbacks on the Markt, and Will Levis, who went 2-10 last season, is the only QB in their selection.
The Titans came in the free desk among the competition leaders in CAP space, but they have spent judgmentally. Their only large investment was a four -year contract of $ 82 million for left -wing tackle than Moore. They added Veteran-Correct guard Kevin Zeitler to a $ 9 million contract to strengthen their attacking line.
The Titans are building an ecosystem to feed a young quarterback. If they are sold on Ward, this could be a repeat of last year, when the Giants were unable to exchange from No. 6 to no. 3 because the patriots were set to take Quarterback Drake Maye.
That is where things can become really interesting. The browns are a total wildcard at the number 2 pick. They can take a quarterback because they need an off-disaster from the disastrous Deshaun Watson era.
Even if the browns pass on a quarterback, there are questions or other QBs in this class even worth a top choice. The Giants toed the attention on the Sheteur Sanders of Colorado during the fall, but it is unclear whether the twinkle is dimmed in their eye when the polarizing Quarterback is further dissected. The stock of Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart seems to go in the opposite direction, but taking him with the third choice would be an important reach. And if the Giants were sold on Sanders or Dart, would they chase aggressive Quarterbacks so aggressive?
The Giants have the next six weeks to search their quarterback evaluations and to map a way of acting for the design. In the meantime, they are waiting for a word from Rodgers. Unfortunately for them they have no other choice.
