Christina Hall is a seasoned pro when it comes to home renovations, but upgrading her parents’ home in Orange County, California was a next-level project to tackle.

“To be honest, I was a bit nervous because my father is very, very neat and doesn’t like anything outside. [place],” Hall, 40, shared exclusively We weekly while promoting season 5 Christina on the coast.

The HGTV star noted that her father, Paul Haackfeels ‘very uncomfortable’ with ‘disorder’, so she was ‘worried about him’.

“I was [also] I was worried about my mother because our styles are very different,” she admitted, revealing that “it was actually very easy in the end. They really trusted me, which I appreciate.”

Looking back, Hall said working side by side with her parents was “more fun” and “more worry-free” because they let her do her thing. “Hanging out with them more and stuff [overall] was actually really good,” she recalled.

While taking over her parents’ house on TV was “fun to do,” Hall teased that it was also one of the “funniest” projects to work on.

“I brought [my best friend] Cassie went to my parents’ house halfway through the renovation and after I did this with her, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I just have to hire her,'” Hall said with a laugh, explaining that Cassie wasn’t shy about her opinions . .

The designer recalled her friend saying, “Wait, what do you mean? You’re not renovating your parents’ entertainment center, which they’ve had since 1985?’ and ‘What do you mean you’re leaving the floor they’ve had since 1985?’”

Hall said Cassie wouldn’t take no for an answer. “She tried to make them understand why it’s a bad idea [to not do it all] and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, this could be a whole new show,'” Hall joked. “It was just hilarious.”

After the hilarious candid, Hall said her parents briefly reconsidered the whole makeover. “My mother [said] to my father: ‘Well, what do you think? Should we do the entertainment center?” To which Hall expressed complete surprise during the renovation: ‘No! Oh my God!”

While Hall’s family will be the focus of one episode this season, it’s not the only home she’s renovated on camera.

“I really wanted to do big projects and luckily we have some really big projects, basically whole houses up to the rafters,” Hall teased of the new episodes, some of which feature year-long projects. “I think fans will really enjoy seeing a whole project come together.”

Christina on the coast Season 5 premieres on HGTV Thursday, July 11 at 9pm ET. Fans can also watch new episodes on Max the same day.
