“Wicked” and “Conclave” were the big winners of the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards on Thursday evening.
This was the second copy of the guild that award the “bad” designer Paul Tazewell. He won in 2021 for “Hamilton” in the excellence in variety, reality competition or live television category. Tazewell has emerged as a leader for the Oscar costumes. If he eventually wins, he will write history as the first black man who wins in the Academy category.
In the excellence in the category of the period film, Linda Muir won for her work on ‘Nosferatu’.
The prizes recognized excellence in film, TV and short -shaped costume design and were organized by Jackie Tohn.
Tohn announced that the guild is launching an auction of Film and TV costumes to support the Iatse Emergency Relief Fund. Among the props for auction are costumes of “House of the Dragon”, Shiz University costumes from “Wicked” and Bob Mackie Cher sketches.
Costume designers Guild Executive Director Brigitta Romanov reminded the room of the power of unity. Romanov said: “When challenges arise, we are not alone. We are together. In the past year, that solidarity was taken into action in a way that really mattered, because Los Angeles was confronted with devastating forest fires, trade unions in all of entertainment did not hesitate. The costume design guild, together with the teamsters, Basic Crafts, SAG AFTRA, the DGA, the WGA and so many others, came together to support the victims to remind us of not being forgotten in a time of crisis. “
Guild President Terry Ann Gordon added: “Resilience, steadfastness and solidarity are characteristics of our community.”
Janelle Monáe, who received the Vanguard Spotlight Award, said: “I appreciate it welcomed in this community. I love to be part of the non-binary community. I love to be transsexual.
I love to be part of the LGBTQia. I love my workers’ workers and people like my grandmother, beautiful immigrants, cooking my food and cleaning our houses. ”
Monae continued: ‘I love the teachers who teach our children. I love the workers who spend hours, days, weeks, months, make the costumes for us. I love them, so I want to devote this price to you. Our world will crumble without those people. ‘
Zoe Balaña was honored with the Spotlight Award. During her speech, the actress thanked the guild and said: “You know that certain actors have specific items that dictate your character, or they are approaching their character by having a clear idea of what they wear. I am not. I am not a trained actor and I spend most of my time preparing for a role by breathing in a paper bag, do not try to panic completely. ”
Saldaña further said: ‘I think so I trust so hard at the work that you all do. I have always liked to work with costume designers. I am a granddaughter and great -granddaughter and a daughter of seamstresses. ‘
