The Trump administration has announced that the seats in the press room of the White House will assign to representatives of “new media” differences, including podcasters, influencers of social media and content makers.
This movement, led by press secretary Karoline Leavitt, is intended to give a representation to groups that were not previously present in the briefing room.
“Millions of Americans, especially young people, have left traditional television and newspapers to consume news via podcasts, blogs, social media and other independent platforms,” Leavitt said on Tuesday during her first daily press conference.
“It is crucial for our team to broadly share President Trump’s message and to adapt the White House to the developing media landscape of 2025,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt is only 27 years old the youngest press secretary of the White House in history.
She invited independent journalists, podcasters, influencers of social media and content makers to request press releases in the White House via the newly launched website, whitehouse.gov/newmedia.
She also revealed that a chair in the first row in the briefing space, traditionally reserved for the staff of the press secretary, now that the “new media chair” will be designated. Applications are assessed by the LeaVitt team and login data are granted to those who meet the criteria and meet the security requirements of the US secret service.
During her first briefing, Leavitt asked questions from new media representatives, including points of sale that are among the most viewed news websites in the country, but never had a place in the briefing space.

“It is a fact that Americans, especially young people, consume news from different platforms. As the youngest press secretary in history, thanks to President Trump, I am proud to open this room for new media gods to guarantee as many Americans as possible,” she said.

Leavitt also emphasized the dedication of the administration to the first amendment and announced plans to restore press passes for 440 journalists whose references were withdrawn under the previous administration.
