The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, must use her upcoming Spring Statement to unveil targeted measures that will keep the UK’s late-stage entrepreneurial firms from seeking more fruitful investment avenues abroad.

Ambitious plans to promote wood as a primary building material and stimulate economic growth were set out at the Timber in Construction (TIC) top in London.

Minister of Environment Mary Creagh has announced an updated TIC route map, designed to accelerate the approval of the UK of wood-based builds, to reduce the carbon emissions and to illuminate the housing shortage of the nation.

Under this extensive route map, the government wants to promote the use of wood and lower carbon construction methods without endangering quality or safety. It underlines the need to transform the dependence on the UK on import-80% of the wood that is currently being used is coming abroad and benefits from Timber’s natural carbon storage benefits.

Forestry Commission Chief Executive, Richard Stanford, praised the plan as a step towards “wood protection” and reducing import dependence. By using the increased forestry production in England, policy makers hope to improve biodiversity, stimulate rural economies and offer new green spaces.

David Hopkins, CEO of Timber Development UK, regards the strategy as a “considerable boost for the low -carbon construction sector”, indicating that the growth of the wood industry can support national economic growth.

Likewise, the confederation of the wood industry chairman Alex Goodfellow Timber described as an opportunity to ‘build more low -carbon homes today while they are expanding forests’, following the ambition of the plan to tackle the environmental goals of the UK. In the meantime, Stuart Goodall or Confor praised the government’s focus on ‘productive forestry and products in their own soil’.

When emphasizing offsite building methods and structural wood, the roadmap also resonates with Andrew Carpenter of the Structural Timber Association, which notes that the “Head Targets meets and at the same time tackles the urgent intestinal bonization obligations.”

In general, the bold dedication of the government for the wood sector of Great Britain is expected to promote larger domestic production, attract investments in wood processing and further integrate sustainable materials into the regular construction. With new measures that are set out and broad industrial support, wood could turn out to be an important plank to achieve growth, lower emissions and deliver critically required houses.
