Lennon and Ono’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, 49, said his mother is still haunted by her past with the musician.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I grew up with my mother talking about my father every day. She famously cut her hair when my father died (because) in Japan you cut your hair when your husband died. So she talked about him every day and I don’t think she ever left that relationship.”
Ono and Lennon were married for eleven years before he was murdered.
But their marriage had problems and in 1973 Ono banished Lennon from their home after an argument. The singer found solace in his personal assistant, May Pang, and moved in with her.
Pang and Lennon began a relationship that lasted more than eighteen months. Lennon later called this time his “Lost Weekend”, which Sean called a difficult time for the entire family.
He recalled: “The truth is, even when they were apart, they were always talking. So I don’t think they ever really broke up. All his stuff was still in the apartment at my mom’s. It’s not like they had a real relationship.” parting.
“And besides, all my father thought about was her.”
Sean said that Lennon, although apart, was always “deeply in love” with Ono.
“I think every relationship is very difficult, and I don’t think people have really solved the love equation. So I think they’ve done the best of anyone that I can see,” he said.
Ono is now in his nineties and uses a wheelchair. There have long been fears that the end is near for the vulnerable widow.
An insider previously told RadarOnline.com: “Yoko is doing very poorly at the moment. She is thin and not doing well at all. She has always had such a good mood, but that spark is almost gone now.”
But even now, Lennon is on her mind and in her heart.
The source continued, “Yoko talks about her husband John and how she hopes to see him again in heaven. It’s like she knows she’s dying and is preparing for the end.”
