“My Lady Jane” has been canceled on Amazon Prime Video, Variety has confirmed.
The historical fantasy drama series aired one eight-episode season on the streamer, airing in its entirety on June 27.
The cast of the series included: Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace and Will Keen.
The show is inspired by the book of the same name, written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows.
The official logline for the series reads: “Gird your loins for the tragic story of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, in the good old year of 1553. Actually… f* ck that . We tell the story the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic story of true love and adventure set in an alt-universe full of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance and pageantry. Buckle up.”
The series was created by Gemma Burgess, who also served as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Meredith Glynn. Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald also served as executive producers, with Babbit also serving as director for five of the series’ eight episodes.
Despite not finding a wide audience, the show proved popular with critics. The first season currently has a critical approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review for VarietyAramide Tinubu said: “In the same vein as Hulu’s ‘The Great,’ the series is a rollicking and hilarious adventure full of magic, romance and daring female characters taking control of their legacy.”
