Two tree fires at Denver’s Cheesman Park on New Year’s Day are under investigation by arson investigators, officials said Thursday.
Fires were reported near the the park’s iconic pavilion On Wednesday, Denver Fire Department crews completely extinguished both trees, spokesman Luis Cedillo said.
One of the Rocky Mountain junipers was removed Thursday morning by city forestry crews, Denver Parks and Recreation spokesperson Stephanie Figueroa said in an email.
The second juniper is still healthy enough and does not need to be removed, she said.
There is no evidence of an encampment nearby and the cause of the fires remains under investigation. Fire officials said this in a message on X.
