Chelsea hosts Bournemouth on Tuesday in the English Premier League with only three points separating the two. Both won in the third round of the FA Cup, with the Blues beating Morecambe and the Cherries eliminating West Bromwich Albion. Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix both scored twice and a goal from Christopher Nkunku came after a saved penalty. Enzo Maresca’s men may have shown that they are not title contenders of late, but they are still very much in contention for a place in the UEFA Champions League. Dango Ouattara scored twice to match Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo and Daniel Jebbison for a ninth match in all competitions without defeat for Bournemouth this weekend. Andoni Iraola’s side previously defeated Everton and currently have the team positioned to challenge for a place in the UEFA competition.

Season so far
Chelsea have just two points from twelve in their last four games, meaning they are ten points behind EPL leaders Liverpool after playing a game more. Newcastle United, Manchester City and the Cherries could skip the Blues this midweek with Maresca’s side to avoid back-to-back Premier League defeats at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2023. Bournemouth have made club history in recent times with an eight-match unbeaten run in the EPL. with only the top two of Liverpool and Arsenal doing better without defeat. Their superb goalscoring performance away from home has seen Iraola’s men score multiple goals in their last five away games in the Premier League, although they are winless in six games against Chelsea.
Team news
Chelsea: Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are all out, while Noni Madueke missed Morecambe through illness. Pedro Neto may be the only starter from the weekend to retain his place, while Adarabioyo could also retain his role in defence. Josh Acheampong has convinced Maresca to return to the XI.
Possible Chelsea XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Acheampong, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Sancho, Palmer, Neto; Jackson.
Bournemouth: Enes Unal and Evanilson are out for long periods, while Jebbison is back from his loan at Watford and has scored. Ouattara or Semenyo should lead the attack with Ben Winterburn out. Marcos Senesi, Julian Araujo, Alex Scott, Marcus Tavernier, Luis Sinisterra and Adam Smith are all out, while Max Aarons could come to Valencia this weekend despite his performance.
Possible Bournemouth XI: Travers; Heuvel, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Cook; Brooks, Kluivert, Ouattara; Semenyo.
Prediction
This should be a Chelsea win, although a draw for Bournemouth shouldn’t be completely ruled out. Scoring both, with the Blues one goal ahead of the Cherries, sounds about right. Choose: Chelsea 2, Bournemouth 1.
