Donald Trump’s former lawyer and current campaign booster Alina Habba seemed to immediately jump to the former president’s defense following his racist lie about his likely Democratic 2024 rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump drew widespread condemnation at the National Association of Black Journalists meeting on Wednesday for his false claim that Harris had previously promoted only her Indian heritage and later “accidentally became black” when it was politically convenient.
But Harris has never hidden any aspect of her heritage, and Trump’s offensive comment was just the latest in a long line.
That didn’t stop Habba from ranting at a Trump rally later in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: “I’m going to speak to you, Ms. Harris.”
“I am a strong woman, a mother, a lawyer and an American. And unlike you, Kamala, I know who my roots are, I know where I come from and I am not playing with the constitution,” she added.
Trump is “innocent of any crime other than loving this country,” Habba claimed of the convicted felon, who was found guilty of all 34 charges in his hush-money trial.
Some critics on social media pointed out Habba’s “who my roots are” flub.
Others accused the Trump acolyte of doubling down on MAGA racism against Harris, which commentators have warned will only get worse ahead of the November vote.
