Elon Musk has claimed that his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) came under a “huge cyber attack” on Monday, making it inaccessible for a few hours.
Speaking on the site As soon as it was online again, the billionaire suggested that the attack was possible by a ‘large, coordinated group and/or a country’, and later it indicated that it could be from Ukraine.
Thousands of X users reported problems with the platform for a large part of Monday, with the malfunction most pronounced between 9.30 am and 6 pm, as followed by monitoring the site -down detector. Musk told Fox Business that “we are not sure what exactly happened”, but said that the size of the attack implied a considerable edition of resources.
A hackgroep known as Dark Storm claimed responsibility on the telegram -reports -although their statement has not yet been verified. The group usually focuses on Israeli sites and promotes cryptocurrency and hack tools.
X underwent similar malfunctions shortly after Mr Musk had completed his takeover in 2022, when the entrepreneur cut a lot of the workforce and made wide changes to the IT systems. Since buying Twitter for $ 44 billion (£ 34 billion), Musk has fired around 80 percent of the company staff.
The alleged attack comes in the midst of growing protests against Mr Musk’s involvement with the government of Donald Trump, where he leads the new Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). Tesla buildings have suffered vandalism, with demonstrations that take place at dealers. Musk has previously suggested that he can be confronted with murder attempts because of his government role. When an X user stated that Hackers Musk and the platform wanted to ‘remain silent’, the billionaire did not respond: ‘Yes’.
Separately shares fell into Tesla, Musk’s Electric Car Company, on Monday in response to broader market sales, felt by fear of an American economic decline.
