ESPN Says Randy Moss Will Take Time Off Due to Health Issues: He Has Our 'Full Support'

Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss is stepping back from his role as an ESPN analyst for an extended period of time to focus on a personal health challenge, the network said in a statement.

Moss, 47, revealed last week that he is dealing with a health issue and asked fans to pray for him and his family.

Moss made his announcement on Instagram from the set of the network’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” show. He addressed his message to men, urging them to get checkups and blood tests, without specifying a specific disease.

“I only ask all prayer warriors to lay their hands of blessing on me and my family during these difficult times. People were talking about my eyes last week,” Moss said before putting on a pair of sunglasses. “Something’s bothering me, man, and it’s something internal, your boy will get through it. I have a great team of doctors and a great family around me.”

Moss played 14 seasons for the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers. He is second only to Jerry Rice with 156 touchdown catches and had 982 catches for 15,292 yards.

Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

“Randy has been a valuable member of the team and has consistently taken Countdown to the next level with his insight and passion,” ESPN said in a statement. “He has the full support of ESPN and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”
