The 2024 European Championship comes to an end on Sunday with an epic final matchup like England will face Spain in the final in Berlin. Spain have won the competition three times and are going for the first time since 2012, while the Three Lions have never won the competition and are hoping to add their first silverware to the men’s trophy cabinet since the 1966 World Cup final.
Spain come into the match as favorites thanks to their dazzling display throughout the competition, while England have improved as the cup has progressed and could be just 90 minutes away from long-awaited international glory.
Ahead of the games, here are our staff picks:
England vs. Spain final score prediction
England vs Spain
One match to watch: Rodri vs. Declan Rice — In many ways this has been the defining battle of the English football calendar, so it is fitting that the kingpins of Manchester City and Arsenal battle it out one last time in a season where they have consistently edged each other from distance. Rodri has had the better Euros by far, while Rice is visibly fading as the weight of all those minutes for club and country weighs heavily on him. He will have to find something in the end or it could become a familiar story for England in the big games, cut to shreds by a midfield that can dominate them with and without the ball. –James Benge
Most Likely Goal: Harry Kane — Whether through a penalty or open play, England’s captain and talisman is most likely to find the net for the Three Lions, despite his underwhelming tournament overall. The Bayern Munich man needs a big performance and perhaps the offer and the big stage will provoke a big response from Kane. If he scores, and the same goes for Dani Olmo, either of the two could take the straight lead as the tournament’s top scorer. –Jonathan Johnson
Man of the Match: Lamine Yamal: He has been the player of the tournament so far and it is expected that he will also be the man of the match in the final against England. Yamal scored a stunner in the semi-final against France that decided the match and he will play alongside Nico Williams and Alvaro Morata in the final. Yamal turned 17 a day before the final and he will compete with Jude Bellingham for the best player of the tournament. The future is on his side, but I expect him to be a decisive player in the final on Sunday. – Francesco Porzio
