His name eventually appeared in the 1983 credits Return of the Jedi, and he went on to voice the villainous Vader for several sequels Star Wars-inspired TV shows and video games.
The actor said his father, actor Robert Earl Jones, prepared him for the ups and downs of a career in show business.
Describing his father’s difficult experience in the industry, Jones explained: “Not only had he been black, but he had been blacklisted, so he couldn’t get work in Hollywood and he said, ‘If you were in the credits Show up because you want to do this business, you should do it because you love it, not because it will make you rich or famous.”
“That was the best advice he could give me.”
