In recent years, Vapen has become popular as an alternative to traditional cigarettes. Flavored electronic cigarettes known as e-cigarette being so popular with young adults that some states have implemented restrictions, such as taste bans and taxes on e-cigarettes in an attempt to reduce teenage vapor.

A new study by researchers from the University of Missouri and the Yale School of Public Health showed that state restrictions on flavored e-cigarettes led to a decrease in Vapen among young adults in the United States. However, these limitations have also led to an increase in traditional cigarette smoke in young adults compared to states without such limitations.

The findings show that well-intended policy for public health factories may have unintended effects-a subject important for Mizzou’s Michael Pesko, a professor of economics to the College of Arts and Science.

“We must always know that every policy will have unintended effects, especially in public health space. In this case, our study finds poorly e-cigarette restrictions the unintended effect of considerably increasing cigarette use,” Pesko said. “This is not good from the perspective of public health, because cigarettes are much more dangerous products. It is the equality of sending a ship away from a storm straight in a hot tub.”

A reasonable and feasible policy goal is to reduce tobacco -related illness and death, Pesko said.

“An important part of achieving that is the determination of policy that shifts from the most harmful tobacco products to less harmful alternatives,” he said. “E-cigarette flavor restrictions have the opposite effect of pushing many people into more harmful tobacco.”

In the study, Pesko also discovered that in Maryland, a state with a policy that has exempt e-cigarettes with Menthol taste, a ban on other flavors, both faps and smoking percentages, which shows that a more nuanced approach to regulations the best Can be the way of tackling public health problems.

The popularity of e-cigarettes began to rise around 2010. At the time, Pesko worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the trend led his interest in his current research.
