Tennis legend Martina Navratilova expressed disbelief about the recent proposal from representative Earl Carter to rename Greenland to “Red, White and Blueland” after the acquisition by President Donald Trump. Navratilova criticized the proposal and repeated the widespread skepticism around the legislation.
Georgia representative Earl L. Carter introduced the “Red, White and Blueland Act of 2025” on Monday 10 February.
Responding to the proposal, Martina Navratilova, an avid critic of Donald Trump and the Republican Party, went to X to express her disbelief:
“I can’t make this!”
This proposal corresponds to the long-term interest of Trump in Greenland, driven by strategic reasons such as national security, access to resources and legacy-building. The Overtures of Trump have caused international reactions, where Denmark and Greenland claim that Greenland is not for sale, which increases the defense issues in response.
Martina Navratilova mocked Donald Trump’s Push to Gulf of Mexico as ‘Gulf of America’

Martina Navratilova responded to Donald Trump’s proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, a water body that borders the American Gulf coast and several Mexican states. Trump introduced this idea during a press conference in Mar-A-Lago in Florida on January 8.
“We are going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name,” said Trump.
In response, an X user has posted jokes:
“Do you know what the price of eggs would really lower? The Gulf of America,” who probably refers to Trump’s earlier comments about tackling supermarket prices during his campaign.
The 18-time Grand Slam Singles Champion shared the post alongside her comment:
“!!! yes !!!”
After his inauguration, Trump signed an executive command entitled ‘Names Restore American Greatness Honor’, who has directed the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’. This step was part of a broader initiative to honor the American heritage and included other recovery guidelines, such as Denali changing to Mount McKinley.
Following the executive order, various organizations have updated their references to tune into the new designation. Google Maps now shows “Gulf of America” for users in the United States, while users in Mexico see “Gulf of Mexico”. International users get to see both names.
Internationally, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has rejected the renamination and explains that for Mexico and the world the Gulf of Mexico remains the same.
