In February 2024, Pedro Pascal And Vanessa Kirby They were confirmed to lead Marvel’s The Fantastic Four film as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, respectively. Marvel announced the film’s casting in February 2024 by paying tribute to the characters’ origins with a ’60s-inspired poster. “Happy Valentine’s Day from Marvel’s First Family!” read the caption of the Instagram reveal, featuring illustrated versions of the actors sitting in a living room in comic-accurate costumes.
The official title of the film – The Fantastic Four: First Steps – was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024.

When will ‘The Fantastic Four’ be released in theaters?
The film will premiere on July 25, 2025, two months after Marvel’s release Lightning strikes.
Who stars in ‘The Fantastic Four?’
Pascal, Kirby, Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach were all announced as part of the cast in February 2024, with a few additions trickling in since then. “[I’m] more than excited, especially to be in that cast, more than anything, with that director Matt Shakman,” Pascal shared Access to Hollywood in February 2024. “To be invited into such a family is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to spend all my time with them.”
Moss-Bacharach revealed that Pascal launched the cast’s group chat.
The cast expanded in April 2024 then Julia Garner joined the film, according to Deadline. The Ozark alum will play Shalla-Bal, an incarnation of the iconic Silver Surfer. Besides Ineson, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne And John Malkovitch have also been cast in secret roles.

In true Marvel fashion, the film’s plot details are being kept under wraps. However, the February 2024 poster gave a small clue as to how the team’s comic book origins could be incorporated into the film.
In the background of the poster’s living room setting is a picture frame with an image of Ben Grimm (pre-Thing transformation). In the comics, the foursome received their powers as a result of a failed space flight. The astronaut Easter egg could suggest that the characters will gain their abilities in a similar way in the film.
Fans got their first glimpse of the film during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel in July 2024. According to the footage, the film is set in a futuristic, ’60s-inspired universe outside the main MCU timeline.
The sizzle reel featured clips of the main cast in costume and astronaut suits, teasing that their origins will be shown in the film. Ben Grimm of Moss-Bachrach was shown in the form of a man and his rock, although his transformed self was mostly hidden in dim light. Perhaps the biggest tease of the footage came at the end, when a giant Galactus was seen peering through a window at the team’s headquarters.

Will ‘The Fantastic Four’ be part of the MCU?
Unlike the previous on-screen adaptations of the Fantastic Four, the 2025 version will be the first to be set in the MCU. 21st Century Fox owned the film rights to Marvel characters – including Deadpool, the X-Men and more – before Disney acquired the studio in 2019. Deadpool and Wolverinewhich hit theaters in July 2024, marked the first major crossover between the Fox and Disney universes.
The Fantastic Four characters have already been featured in the MCU, with Johannes Krasinski making a cameo as Reed Richards in 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Krasinski’s version of the hero wasn’t from the main MCU timeline.
Who directs ‘The Fantastic Four?’
Matt Shakmanwho directed the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision, has signed on for the upcoming superhero movie. Shakman took over directing duties from Jon Wattswho led Tom Holland‘S Spider-Man trilogy, following his departure from the project in April 2022.

One of the biggest reveals at Marvel’s 2024 Comic-Con panel was the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as the famous villain Doctor Doom. The character is one of the Fantastic Four’s most notable foes in the comics and will be the big villain in the upcoming fifth and sixth Avengers films, titled Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Wars.
Details about Downey Jr.’s version of the character are currently being kept under wraps, including whether he will appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
