RiffTrax, the entertainment and live events company founded by a trio of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” stars, has signed a distribution deal with indie streamer Nebula.
The pact sees RiffTrax bring its existing insights and new originals to the platform, a streamer majority owned by a collective of Nebula creators.
Starting October 5, RiffTrax will launch its weekly “Saturday Cinema” series on Nebula, starting with the release of five short films including commentary. This week’s release is a version of “Night of the Living Dead” with their classic RiffTrax style commentary.
Founded by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett in 2006, RiffTrax is an entertainment company that produces MST3K commentary content for films in various genres.
RiffTrax has a library of more than 1,000 titles and has produced five primetime television specials for the National Geographic Channel, two apps and an official game, “RiffTrax: The Game,” which is available on Mac, PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The company produces RiffTrax Live several times a year with live commentary on a film that is simulcast in more than 700 theaters in North America.
“Delighted with this latest collaboration,” said Dave Wiskus, CEO of Nebula. “The RiffTrax team is a pioneer not only in comedy, but also in digital video and entertainment. Being able to work with them is truly a dream come true.”
“Having been an independent, artist-owned company for nearly two decades, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with a creator-driven platform like Nebula,” said RiffTrax president and lead writer Nelson. “Given the number of films we’ve selected over the years with ‘space’ or ‘galaxy’ in the title, it feels like a natural partnership. We’re excited to introduce our particular brand of humor to a lot of people who may not have had the pleasure of watching ‘Galaxy Invader’ or ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space.’
