🔴 Arsenal Eye Comeback against Newcastle
Arsenal goes to St James’ Park on Wednesday with the need to overcome a 2-0 deficit against Newcastle United and a situation that does not necessarily prefer them.
The Gunners are perhaps the choice of oddmakers to win the second stage, but the Magpies created a solid blueprint for the victory in the first stage they can mirror on Wednesday. When they gave priority to the defense, Newcastle succeeded in their own strengths and emphasized the most striking weakness of Arsenal – their need for a natural goal scorer. The side of Mikel Arteta was unable to invest in the winter transfer window, even if a movement for Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa was investigated, so they will be stuck to the same cast of characters who participated in the first stage of January.
Kai Havertz is likely to be a central figure on Wednesday and may play every minute in view of the lack of depth and a list of injuries from Arsenal. Leandro Trossard could pitch while fulfilling the role that was usually reserved for the wounded Bukayo Saka, but the lack of change in the line -up of the Gunners is not necessarily bad news. As James Benge writes, Arsenal has approved many things this season from an attacking point of view and could do this very well on Wednesday.
- Benge: “Because of all this, Arsenal has continued to get in the right places. Indeed, they do this with an increased regularity, even if the season has worn them out. Prior to the international break of November, this was a team that an average of 1.5 non-non Penalty expected goals (NPXG) has since risen to 1.8.
Whether they can actually perform is the big question, especially in a consequence week for Arsenal. They are only a few days away from beating Manchester City with 5-1, which considerably surpassed their count of one expected goal. The back line of Newcastle, which only admitted seven goals in their last 12 games, will be a greater test than the leaking defense of the city. However, Wednesday’s game has the power to solve either a strong week before the attack of Arsenal or to offer another sign why their trophy -dried will probably extend to a fifth year.

🆕 Tottenahm brings new faces to Liverpool
On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur hopes to build on their 1-0 advantage of the first stage and Ouster Liverpool from the EFL Cup while they are looking for their first trophy since 2007.
Despite the advantage, the chances are not necessarily in favor of Spurs – the Reds are still winning at a regular pace, and Mohamed Salah is increasingly difficult to bet against scoring 25 goals this season. Tottenham also still has to do with an enormous injury crisis, with the most recently losing the Centrumback Radu Dragusin to an ACL Teacher last week. Manager Ange Postecoglou also uses a cautious approach with Micky van de Ven, who only made his second start since October last week after dealing with a hamstring injury and leaves him at home for the trip to Anfield.
But the good news for traces? They were far from full power of the last time and still achieved a surprise profit and will have some reinforcements this time.
To begin with, Richarlison is back after dealing with a hamstring injury that he sustained in November and already has two goals in his first six games in his return. More in particular, Tottenham will have two new signing sessions that can play a major role on Thursday and the Back Kevin Danso and 19-year-old Vooruit Mathys Tel. Just like goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky did in the first stage of January, Danso seems ready to go directly into the line -up to start his loan spell in England and will probably come in the linea in the absence of Van de Ven, in addition to veteran Ben Davies, Dragusin and still wounded Cristian Romero. However, Tel is one of the more intriguing signing sessions of the winter transfer window and joins Tottenham after interesting a wide range of English clubs. The versatile 19-year-old is considered one of Europe’s most promising attackers, but his playing time at Ouderclub Bayern Munich dried this season, which means that his loan period at Spurs could offer a real look about what his ceiling is.
