Mexico City:
Gunmen attacked a bar in the central Mexican city of Queretaro on Saturday, killing 10 people, a local security official said. According to Juan Luis Ferrusca, the head of Queretaro’s public security department, the attackers opened fire at the Los Cantaritos bar in the city’s historic district.
“Emergency services arrived on the scene and confirmed that at least four people armed with long weapons had arrived aboard a pick-up truck,” he said in a video on social media.
“Ten people inside have been reported dead so far and at least seven more have been injured,” he added.
One suspect was arrested and the vehicle used in the attack was found abandoned and set on fire, Ferrusca said.
Queretaro is considered one of the safer cities in Mexico, where rising violence, much of it linked to drug trafficking and gangs, has killed more than 450,000 people since 2006.
