If you’ve ever sent a message on your phone, you’re familiar with this scenario. Just as you start typing a message, someone else starts pressing the keys too!
Most apps make it easy to see if someone else is typing, which means you can stop and wait for them to finish. But on WhatsApp it is not in the most visible place.
Instead of an icon appearing just below existing messages (as you’ll find in Apple’s Messages and Facebook Messenger), WhatsApp has hidden its message at the top of the screen next to the other person’s name. It’s easy to miss as you’re typing.
However, that will no longer be a problem. Following previous reports, WhatsApp owner Meta has now confirmed the introduction of ‘Typing Indicators’, which adds an ellipsis (…) and a profile photo at the bottom of a chat when someone is typing. This applies to both 1:1 and group conversations.
Meta
Meta says the feature is rolling out to users on both iPhone and Android. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store to see if the update is already available for your phone.
